This month, I visited home more for the animals than for the people:

 And I did a lot of sitting:

And visited Vesuvio, the hang out of Beatnik poets:

 And then we ventured into City Lights Bookstore:

And rode up the elevator in Coit Tower:

And walked down a lot of stairs:

Nick also bought a salami that is larger than his head:

 And I officially paid off all of my student loans:

We visited the Asian Museum of Art  for their amazing block print exhibit:

And we had a super classy date night:

My old roommate Lindsie came out for a visit:

 And we did the Bay to Breakers 12K Run without giving her any notice:

Things got quite fishy:

And crowded: 

 Then we met up with her high school friend and she took us to Fort Point:

Then we saw The Book of Mormon with Nick's family:

And added to our record collection: 

We happened upon a large group of elephant seals:

And Addie dug her own den:

Then we ate oysters at Nick's Cove:

Then we celebrated the end of Heidi's first year at Berkeley by going to Urban Putt: 

Then family visited and we outsmarted a zombie:

when nick goes grocery shopping alone

Nick went out to get mushrooms for dinner and instead came back with two giant tubs of Nutella. Apparently, he is secretly 5.

Is it sad that you can see how far we have already gotten into the first jar?

real book vs kindle

Whenever I'm online, I always see debates between people who read paper books and those who read on a Kindle.

I've seen epic battles wage in comment sections, going over the smells of new books and how it feels to hold something solid and heavy in your hands as you read or how easy it is to travel with a Kindle and how much space and trees it can save.
As a big reader and someone who brings more boxes of books that clothes every time I move, everyone always tries to pull me into the argument to fight in the name of real books.

But the truth is, if you're the type of person who spends their free time reading, whether a real book or on a Kindle, you are my type of person.

field trip

A bus pulled up in front of the Asian Art Museum and a wave of kids came roaring out onto the steps right in front. Normally, this would not be a sight I would find remarkable, except that these 10-year old kids were about to be ushered through a museum that was currently running this exhibit:

Field trips have changed a lot since my day.
