may malarkey

Among the many exciting things that happened to me in this month was completing this ridiculous cat puzzle:
Seriously, look at how crazy the pieces were shaped:

I went to a bounce house party at a park in the Pan Handle when it was interrupted by Pagans with a may pole celebrating Beltane.
This later happened in the bounce house:

We stopped by Clarion Alley to see what was new:

Our building opened a dog run:

Nick went to a conference in Vegas and came back with this object that was printed by a 3D printer.
It has teeth marks because Addie assumed it was for her:

We visited the location of Philo T. Farnsworth's lab:

We cooked dinner with scallions we grew in our patio:

I flew back to Orange County for a wedding:

My aunt got a kitty!:

I found something in my shoe:

I got a lot of cuddles:

This is a pretty good representation of what happened at the wedding:

I am officially an 826 Valencia volunteer:

Reading on the skyline:

The Carnival Parade:

Dolores Park:

Nick finds the place where he belongs:

Ice cream!:

These are my new animal friends at work.
One of our Chinchillas:

Em, the Bearded Dragon:

Sunflower and Marigold:

Classroom art that makes me laugh because the dog has human eyes and the frog has no back legs:

The Chinchillas decorated my pants for me:

Two of our rats cuddling:

The two pigeon couples:

I got to take Addie to work one day and she made a new best friend:

Wine tasting in Sonoma. Kunde Family Estates:

It's hard not to make new friends when you're in a CAVE FULL OF WINE:

VJB Winery:
Where we were serenaded by opera singers:

Ledson Winery and Vineyards:

what would i say?

There's a website called "What Would I Say?" that takes sentences you have written for Facebook updates and comments and then generates ridiculous updates that sound like you.
And apparently, I sound very, very creepy.

 Unexpected poetry.

What's the matter?

 But, honestly, what doesn't?

 Is there a right way?

I need to know. For reasons.

 That sounds about right.

Jello is forever.

I worry about this all the time.

It was settled out of court.

 Maths.

 3,2,1.

I apparently got possessed at one point.

Did this page just predict my death?

This happens all of my life. Not just one.

 Just so you know.

 More maths.

And also a little from a sci-fi thriller.

Take that!

 I really do.

 Turn around.

jr face

Thursday night, I took Jr out to let him run around the apartment when we noticed that his hind legs had suddenly stopped working. We took him to the vet and discovered that he had Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome, which is a neurological disease that paralyses the the hedgehog's hind legs and works its way up through the body. The vet did everything he could, but there is no cure for WHS and Jr died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday night and was in no pain.

I've been having trouble concentrating since this happened, so here is a personal essay I wrote for Morkan's Horse about the day I got Jr:

"Californians drive to Nevada to buy hedgehogs and ferrets so often the Vegas pet shop gave me a pre-printed map highlighting a path that would take us around the border check on our way home. The dusty road it led us along seemed pointless. We passed perhaps two houses and a lonely, implausible, Post Office. Mike was already snoring in the backseat, and Nick was driving, so I opened the cardboard box to take a peek at my new spiky friend. He’d burrowed under a layer of shredded newspaper and was curled in a tiny ball of pointy anger.

I closed the lid and reaffixed the tape. I placed my hand level to the bottom of the windowsill and crossed it over the box to make sure it was out of sight. It was, after all, contraband—even if it was just an apple-sized creature."

You can read the rest of the essay here.

R.I.P my grumpy little guy.
